Welcome!
Why Animal Coins?
I have always loved animals. So, it is not surprising that when I joined a coin club with my young son in 1995, I decided to collect coins with animals on them. Most of the USA coins did not have animals, so I quickly turned to foreign coins.
Little did I know that I would discover amazing animals from all over the world. I discovered countries that I had never heard of, and countries that no longer exist. I was also delighted that many countries honored their native animals with coins using artists to design these wonderful little works of art.
I found coin series for both the animal lover and coin collector. Isle of Man, the origin of the Manx cat, has a series of "cat crowns" that feature a different breed of cat each year. There is an Endagered Species coins series, issued by many different countries to support preservation.
Sea Turtles, cat crowns, dog coins, elephants and giraffes from Africa, as well as unusual looking animals like the kangaroo and the platapus from Australia. What a wonderful adventure and each coin has a story to tell.
Coin Jewelry - My Passions Combined
As my passion for the animal coins grew, I hated leaving the coins sitting in the drawer. I really wanted to share them with my family and friends. In fact, I really wanted to tell everyone about my hobby.
I was already an artist doing hand-painted silk and making jewelry. I decided it might be fun to combine my passions. After three months playing "mad scientist" I finally came up with a hand painting process that looks like enameling, and started making coin jewelry.
I started selling my coin jewelry at shows, and found many people who shared my love of animals and the coins. I often traded stories on what made a particular animal or country so special to that person.
Please take the time to explore my coin jewelry and the stories I love to share. I invite your comments, and hope you will join me in exploring the world through coins.
