This is a 1 Kina coin from Papua New Guinea, and it features Sea & River Crocodiles.  Historically, coins were made with center holes to wear the coins on a string around your neck.

This country is north of Australia near the equator and is divided into more than 7,000 seperate tribes speaking more than 700 mutually unintelligible languages.

The coin was hand painted by Ann Nolen in the style of enamelling.  The end result is a unique piece of jewelry, with an interesting story to share with your friends and family.

Thought I would share a funny story told to me by my dentist's wife, Judy, when she saw this Crocodile coin. Judy and her husband went to South Carolina on a trip. When Judy's husband went out for a day of golf, he was warned that if he saw a Crocodile out of the water, to drop everything and run as fast as he could. It seems that Crocodiles can run very fast over land, and if they are out, they are looking for someone to eat for lunch! The golf went without incident. When he met up with Judy later in the day, he told her the story. Judy was a little shocked. She had been riding a bicycle around the same swampy small trails all morning, but had no idea of the danger. Wow...
